POSSE's FALL Schedule of "Organize and Computerize"

For these courses below POSSE is teaching in conjunction with The PC Teacher. Jean Marie Herron covers the physical portion and Betsy Coyne teaches the electronic portion. Here's a great opportunity to come and learn how to get organized both with your space and your computer.

TURN THOSE PILES INTO FILES!

  • Time:  7 - 9 p.m.
  • Location: Taught through the Ramsey Adult School
  • Cost: $35
  • Register: Call 201-327-2025 or www.RamseyAdultSchool.com

Do you have papers all over your house and documents all over your computer and not know where to put them electronically or physically? Did you know you could scan your hard copy papers into your computer, create file folders and archive to disk so that everything is accessible via your computer? Come learn how to organize both kinds of documents; paper and electronic and then learn how to create files and organize your documents on your home computer.

MAIL, MAIL GO AWAY AND DON'T COME BACK ANOTHER DAY!

This class will teach you how to deal with the mail in your mailbox and the email in your inbox. Come learn how to combat the deluge of information people are sending you both electronically and physically with and without your permission. You will learn how to set up a tickler system so no paper falls through the cracks of your kitchen counters and no emails fall to the "scroll down" feature on your computer. You will also learn how to purge junk mail and SPAM by stopping it from coming into your home and computer in the first place.

WHERE HAVE ALL MY PHOTOS GONE?

  • Date: Thursday, October 28th
  • Time:  7 - 9 p.m.
  • Location: Taught through the Ramsey Adult School
  • Cost: $35
  • Register: Call 201-327-2025 or www.RamseyAdultSchool.com

Do you know where all your photos are? Are they all over the house and all over your computer? Many people have lost the ability to "see" their photos because they are scattered in boxes, drawers, plastic tubs, on different media cards, cameras and computers. Even though we have them, we really don't know how to find at them. Come learn how to organize and computerize your photos so you can treasure your memorabilia. After all, that's why we take pictures to begin with.

FROM HOMEROOM TO HOMEWORK (NEW!)

  • Date: Wednesdays, October 13th and October 20th
  • Time:  7 - 9 p.m.
  • Location: Taught through the Ridgewood Community School

  • Register: Call 201-670-2777 or www.rcs.school.ridgewood.k12.nj.us

Do you know how to help your child succeed academically? By helping your children get organized, you give them a life skill that is not taught in school. Come learn the basics on how to teach your "students" the mechanics of organizing their backpacks, lockers, desks and planners. Then learn how to computerize these tasks so that getting assignments done on time is a reality. This course is for parents of 4th-12th graders who want to create systems so their children can spend their time doing homework instead of trying to find it!

CREATE YOUR OWN HOLIDAY ORGANIZER (NEW!)

Now is the perfect time to get ready for the holidays. Come create your own "Holiday Organizer" which will house all your seasonal information into one binder system. We will computerize your lists using Excel to create a Card List, Who to Buy For, Budget, Menus, Calendar and Traditions. At the end of the class you will go home with your materials, including a CD all ready for you to tackle and customize your holiday before Thanksgiving even arrives.

ORGANIZE AND COMPUTERIZE YOUR COUNTERTOPS AND DESKTOP SIMULTANEOUSLY

Do you have papers all over your house and documents all over your computer and not know where to put them electronically or physically? Do you also fear going to your mailbox or email box? This two-night class will teach you the basic recipe of organizing both kinds of information whether you have paper piles or electronic clutter. You will earn how to scan, create file folders, archive to disk and set up an appropriate ticker SYSTEM to Save You Space, Time, Energy and Money. Have a POSSE party...

Have a GO, SO or Box of Joe

  1. GO Box - "Get Organized" box which consists of a desktop file box and tickler system to corral all adult active papers.
  2. SO Box - "Student Organized" box which consists also of a desktop file box but customized for a child's academic and personal life.
  3. JOE Box - A Box of Joe from Dunkin' Donuts or you can provide wine and cheese if you like! Here's an opportunity to "Ask the Organizer" about any household organizing dilemmas, and/or projects that cause dysfunction in your home.

How it works:

  1. You pick from 1, 2 or 3 above and schedule a date with POSSE. Invite whomever you would like to attend.
  2. POSSE does a quick phone assessment before the party to get "organized" for the event.
  3. On the date of the party, POSSE arrives 30 minutes ahead of the party time ready for a 1-hour organizing demonstration based on your project.

Costs:

  • The cost of the Professional Organizer is $100 for the evening.
  • Any organizing supplies are purchased in advance by the client or added to POSSE's invoice if we do the personal shopping.

POSSE'S PEN!

(New Location!)

How would you feel if you had an outlet to express your frustrations with any issue related to "getting organized"? We have one, it's called POSSE's Pen.

Back in the spring of 2009 POSSE created the idea of an "Organizational Support Group" that includes a half an hour of teaching on a particular topic and then an hour round robin so that each person has the opportunity to:

1. Express her/his struggles with a particular organizational issue

2. Speak to the group on the topic of the day

3. Give tips, comments and suggestions to others who would like them

4. Ask a professional organizer or other group members' specific organizing questions.

The concept is simple, come and spend some time once a month with people who are either frustrated with how to keep order in their lives OR want to improve upon the skills they already own.

The emotional atmosphere of the Pen is one of fellowship. At the end of the meeting one can be assigned a "wrangler". This is a person that helps motivate you with your goals prior to the next gathering. We find that having an accountability partner helps us to succeed faster.

Jean Marie Herron leads the group with a discussion of a previously chosen topic and gives the attendees a mini-workshop of information, examples, ideas and solutions on how to implement those techniques in your home.

Our POSSE's Pen Mission is:

"To learn valuable organizing skills and to provide support for each other in a confidential group setting where one is free to express her/his own dysfunction with any issue related to organizing."
